ART DANS LA CITE PRESENTS
INTERACTIVE TACTILE PAINTINGS
Since 2010, Art dans la Cite works with artists using the new digital technologies to improve the interactivity between the artwork and the
patients at the hospital, and proposes today, playful and innovative
creation for the children and the teenagers hospitalized in long stay.
Having displayed during three consecutive years, the digital project
"Fenêtre sur Chambre" (window into the room) in several hospitals, Art dans la Cité wished
to realize a brand new digital creation based on a new concept, using interactive technologies, for children
hospitalized in long terms in pediatric departments. It uses in particular KINECT and can be spread
together in the chamber and in the waiting rooms of the service.
INTERACTIVE TACTILE PAINTINGS is a new experiment using avant-garde technology in the field of the art that allows the patient to
be in the heart of the digital creation!
To bring this project to a successful conclusion, Art dans la Cité contacted Santiago Torres, young and talented Venezuelan artist living in Paris. Inspired by the movement of kinetic art (Julio Le Parc, Vasarely, Sotto, Nicolas Schöffer are his masters), he creates Interactive geometrical artworks. He creates interactive spaces where the spectator-actor can transform colors and shapes of colorful paintings of virtual volumes which levitate on a screen space.
One of the very first example of INTERACTIVE TACTILE PAINTINGS “Composition couleur et lumineuse CHU de Nantes" has been settled since December 9th, 2013, in the waiting room of the department of infantile surgery of the NANTES HOSPITAL, for which it was specially created.

With “Composition couleur et lumineuse CHU de Nantes”, Santiago
Torres proposes two artworks on the same screen: a colorful composition which
works with a tactile system, directly on the screen, and a bright composition
which works with Kinect system.
During a residence he makes within the hospital in December 2013, the
artist invited the children and their parents as well as the staff to live a
unique experiment inside his work. He leads them in his artistic universe
during collective workshops, developing numerous possibilities of interactive
creations. The artist incited them to transform the work,
its colors, its forms, its design, following their imagination to be themselves
creators of the work!
The key points of this new project are: "federating" the children, initiation to digital art,
simplicity in the technical use and the understanding of the functioning of the work, strong interactivity strengthened by digital screen and by kinect, strong creativity, originality in the artistic proposal and the possibility of renewal

The project, INTERACTIVE TACTILE PAINTINGS, is a creation, where each one
is at the same time spectator and actor of the work. The artistic proposal
will be at the same time adaptable according to the life of the department of
the hospital, will allow all patients of the same department to meet and to
share their feelings, in spite of their respective isolation. A real opening to
the world, to the other one, in a purpose of sharing, understanding, and of
creation emanate from this project
